Housing allowance

If you are renting a home in the Netherlands, you may be eligible for housing allowance (also called rent benefit or in Dutch huurtoeslag).

Housing allowance is a financial contribution from the Government of the Netherlands to help cover part of your rent. Whether you are eligible depends on your personal situation, such as your type of accommodation and residence status.

You apply for housing allowance yourself via the Dutch Tax Authority (Belastingdienst), not through Veste Wonen.

The websites below explain step by step what you need, how to apply, and whether you are eligible. The Belastingdienst also calculates how much housing allowance you may receive, giving you quick insight into your monthly housing costs.
